As the prophet’s identifies with the dry bones, he is faced with painful questions, even a crisis of faith. Nevertheless, this identification with the desperate plight of his people is necessary for the prophet to become the instrument through which God communicates a message of salvation and resurrection.
The hand of Yahweh was on me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of Yahweh, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones. He caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, behold, they were very dry. He said to me, Son of man, can these bones live? I answered, Lord Yahweh, you know. Ezekiel 37:1-3
