Shofar

This painting picture a prophet with a shofar, or ram's horn. He warns: "Wait a moment, think about what you're doing, discern what is really valuable, listen to your heart and beware."
Deported persons on their way to the train, a village, a house, a church without windows: we didn't want to hear, we preferred to look the other way. One German Bible version has the words "Wir haben das nicht gewusst"! 2,700 years ago, God has inspired the writer of the book of Proverbs to record this warning. For many ages, it has been a silent letter, but now, after the catastrophic events in 1940-1945, it should be thundering in our ears. We could have known!

Rescue those who are being led away to death! Indeed, hold back those who are staggering to the slaughter! If you say, “Behold, we didn’t know this;” Doesn’t he who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, doesn’t he know it? Shall he not render to every man according to his work? Proverbs 24:11-12
